In order to be a success in the American business world, you must get along with people. You must learn to behave yourself in such a way that you earn the affection(关爱)and respect of others. As we have already pointed out, Americans mix business and pleasure. Therefore, learning how to chat informally(非正式地)can be a help with your American business contracts. Americans like to talk about a number of different topics—sports, politics, cars, popular movies, television shows and personal interests.

Many large American cities have sports teams. If you are working with Americans in the United States, it would be a good idea to find out about the local sports teams so that you can join in the almost inevitable discussions about “What our team will do this year.” Politics can be a sensitive topic unless everyone is of the same mind politically. Limit your discussions to asking questions of your friends. Most Americans are car owners and some are even obsessive(着迷的)about the subject. You can contribute to the discussion by talking about cars you have owned or by sharing information you have had in automotive magazines. Americans watch television almost every night and attend movies regularly, so naturally ___________________________.

In the spring of 2013, Carly Zalenski's eyes were filled with tears as the dusty bus ran down a dirt road in southern Vietnam. The 14-year-old girl and her family had traveled by plane from Canton, Ohio, to Ho Chi Minh City and then by bus deep into the Mekong Delta. Now, as they approached the village, hundreds of cheering schoolchildren lined the entrance to the Hoa Lac School, a two-story concrete building that Carly had raised money for.

Carly started helping others when she was eight, handing out Thanksgiving baskets at church to families in need. It was a snowy day, and she saw that one girl was wearing a pair of broken shoes and others didn't have warm coats. The next November, she went door-to-door asking for used coats, hats, gloves, and scarves, and then handed them out with the baskets.

But Carly wanted to do more - she wanted to "change lives," she says. She remembered that her grandmother's Rotary club had, years earlier, raised money to build a school in Vietnam. That was it, she decided. She'd build a school, too.

She put together a PowerPoint presentation on the people and culture of Vietnam. At 12, hardly able to see over the platform, she gave her first fund-raising speech. She spoke with enthusiasm" The kids in rural Vietnam don't have good schools, " she told a room of 200 Rotarians. "That's not fair. I want to raise money and improve the school condition to make their lives better. "

In two years, Carly set off with her family across Ohio, visiting three or four Rotary clubs a week. "We traveled like crazy people to all these meetings," recalled her mother, Kris.

Finally, Carly raised $ 50,000, which was matched by the Vietnam Children's Fund. At the donation ceremony in Hoa Lac, the school principal was impressed with the ninth grader. "How wonderful," he said through a translator, "that a girl wanted to do something for kids of her age so far away. "

(2)But now Britain's National Health Service (NHS) will be offering a new solution: acupuncture (针灸).The ancient Chinese needle treatment has been around in the UK for many  years, but this is the first time it has been officially supported.

(3)Traditionally, doctors in the UK have advised back pain sufferers to stay active, do stretching exercises and take painkillers when necessary. In more serious cases some people are given X-ray treatment or injections.

As an alternative to acupuncture, patients will be able to opt for either a course of spinal manipulation (脊椎推拿), or a series of special exercise sessions.

(5)In the UK, acupuncture is classed as a complementary treatment, which is the term given to a medical procedure which hasn't gone through the strict trials by which scientists prove some treatments work.

(6)While many experts have welcomed the move to make acupuncture available on the NHS, some are still sceptical about its effectiveness. Research from the US earlier this month found that simulated acupuncture using toothpicks which do not make a hole in the skin could be as good as using real needles. So while some are yet to be convinced, back pain sufferers will be hoping that acupuncture helps get them feeling healthy and mobile again. Employers, on the other hand, will be hoping it gets them back to work.

注意:每个空格只填1个单词。请将答案写在答题卡上相应题号的横线上。

By teaching your children fire safety rules you can ensure they know what to do when a house fire occurs. Making sure your children know exactly what is required of them cuts down the chaos of the emergency situation and helps keep your family safe and secure.

All children should know about important fire safety procedures. For example, tell your children to stay low to the ground in a smoky room, which keeps them from breathing smoke, as smoke always rises towards the ceiling. Also tell them that they can put a damp towel or a piece of clothing over their faces and breathe in through it to cut down the effects of breathing smoke even more.

In addition, make sure your children know how to correctly stop, drop and roll when their clothes catch fire. Because it results in loss of oxygen, which puts out the flames. Also your children should know to touch door handles before opening the doors to see if they’re hot. If they are, it means there’s a fire in the next room, and they should leave the door closed and find another route out of the house.

Make sure your children never play with lighters or matches. Usually, many children are attracted by lighters and matches and want to experiment with setting things on fire to see what happens. So hide lighters and matches in some place your children can’t reach.

Do regular fire drills to act out and improve your evacuation(疏散)plan. Make sure everyone knows all the possible exits of the house they can use, and that all members of your family know your evacuation plan well enough so that they don’t have to waste time thinking if a fire starts. 第三部分读写任务(共l小题,满分25分)

阅读下面的短文,然后按照要求写一篇150词左右的英语短文。

Years ago it was very difficult to travel from one place to another. The journeys were often long, tiring and dangerous. Today the picture has changed. Science has improved transportation and communication facilities a great deal. Traveling has become safer, more enjoyable and above all, more economical.

Traveling — whether within one’s country or abroad — brings many invaluable benefits. People travel for pleasure, business or for education and knowledge. In the world of yesterday most people were only able to read about strange and fascinating places across the mountains and seas. Later, with the coming of the cinema and television, man’s curiosity about faraway places with strange sounding names was further stirred up. Today man’s curiosity can be satisfied in luxurious comfort. There are first-class ships and airplanes to take him where his dreams lie.

We travel to increase our knowledge of the world in which we live. Knowledge obtained from books alone is not enough. New knowledge of different land and peoples enriches our mind and soul. Books generally do not give us a very true picture of lands beyond our shores. Some of them are even misleading.

[1] What does a successful language learner do? Language learning research shows that successful language learners are similar in many ways.

[2] First of all, successful language learners are independent learners. They do not depend on the book or the teacher. Instead of waiting for teachers to explain, they try to find the patterns and the rules for themselves. They are good guessers who look for clues and form their own conclusions.

[3] Secondly, successful language learning is active learning. Therefore, successful learners do not wait for a chance to use the language but                . They find people who speak the language and they ask these people to correct them when they make a mistake. They will try anything to communicate. They are not afraid to repeat what they hear or to say strange things. They are willing to make mistakes and try again. When communication is difficult, they can accept information that is inexact or incomplete. It is more important for them to learn to think in the language than to know the meaning of every word.

[4] Finally, successful language learners are learners with a purpose. They want to learn the language because they are interested in the language.

[5] What kind of language learners are you? If you are a successful language learner, you have probably been learning independently, actively and purposefully. On the other hand, if your language learning has been less than successful, you might do well to try some of the techniques above.

We all hate speed cameras, don’t we?They’re not there to slow drivers down and lower the road accidents;they just make money for the government. They trick us,cost us cold hard cash, disturb us from driving properly and are unfair.
Well, here’s a surprising thing:what if there were facts that the boring cameras actually saved lives? It’s a conclusion difficult to ignore when you look at what’s happening in France,a country with a historically poor record of road safety.
There were 16,617 road deaths in 1972 in France for example, but that dropped to 8412 by 1995 following rules such as compulsory(强迫的)seat belt wearing in 1990 and a lowering of the blood alcohol limit to 0.05 in 1995.
Last year, the road deaths dropped below 5,000 for the first time,or 4.9 percent less than2004.Comparing road deaths to populating in 2005,that’s about 817 per million people compared with Australia’s 806.
And guess what?Last year the number of speed cameras on French roads reached 1,000 and the government plans to double that within the next three years.
Okey, you know the arguments on the increased traffic safety and cameras. for-inco me, but in seems in France there’s been a major cultural change brought on by radars and other laws. A theer-hour, wine-soaked lunch with a quick rush back to the office is no longer on.
Traveling on the highways,it is rare to see anyone breaking the 130km/h speed limit when one few traveled below it. The speed cameras are clearly signed so drivers know when they are coming There’s even all official web site listing fixed and mobile camera locations and it is updated regularly
Maybe it is because of such transparency by government, rather than the secrecy too often used by authorities in many other countries that more French can enjoy their life thanks to speed cameras

[1]When children go to camp, they are on their own, sometimes for the very first time in their lives. They have to decide what to wear , what to eat and which activities to participate in . As a result they develop confidence and independence.

[2]As self-respect develops from learning to be on their own, children continues to try new activities . Also it is possible that they will engage in what they are unfamiliar with. In school, children do not experience success in the same way. Camp can be a school without failure because just having fun makes them a success.

[3] One of the greatest benefits of a camp experience is that children develop social skills. In camp setting, a good counselor(顾问) will make sure that every camper is included in the activity and that each child interacts with the others in a positive way. They learn to give and take, and they learn how to work and cooperate, Something as simple as clean-up , is not only there to get the cabin clean, but to promote a team atmosphere of working sogether which in turn results in friendship.

[4] The obvious benefit of camp is that campers make long lasting friendships .These friendships can often be unique and special because campers are living with each other and see the true personalities. Children learn to see others from a different viewpoint. Children tend to be accepted for who they are and do not have to be concerned about what they wear, what they are good at and how they look. This is because in a camp setting , respect and caring finally win out over materialistic(唯物的)objectives.

阅读下面短文并回答问题,然后将答案写到答题卡相应的位置上(请注意问题后的词数要求)。

[1] Parents and educators battle over how much homework kids should have, and how often they should have it. This past school year, my eldest daughter's teacher did not assign too much homework, and often gave the kids extra time during class to get it done. Meanwhile, my daughter's dear friend — who attends the same school and is in the same grade — struggled nightly with her lengthy homework assignments. She had work to do every night, extra projects to complete, and assignments to complete over holiday break.

[2] So which was the lucky kid? Some might argue that my child was — she had more time to play, and spent less time stressing over assignments. Others might feel that my child was missing out on a key element of her education by not having what she was learning during the school day reinforced.

[3] To be honest, I'm not really sure which camp I'm in, but it's debates like this one that have sparked a homework revolution between parents and schools all over the country. A New York Times article reported that the school district in Galloway, N.J., is considering a proposal to limit weeknight homework to 10 minutes for each year of school — 20 minutes for second-graders, 30 minutes for third-graders, etc. — and ban assignments on weekends, holidays and school vacations. The school district in Pleasanton, Calif., is looking at a similar proposal. __________, other schools around the country are introducing homework-free holidays, no-homework nights, and goal-work — instead of homework — that can be completed throughout the school day.

[4] Most of these changes are in response to annoyed parents who see lengthy homework assignments competing with what little family time they have each day. The documentary "Race To Nowhere" spurred(激起)more debate by highlighting the unnecessary pressure on kids in today's educational system.

[1] Doctors say anger can be an extremely damaging, unless you learn how to deal with it.They warn that anger can lead to heart disease, stomach problems, headaches, emotional problems and possibly cancer.

[2] Anger is a normal emotion that we all feel from time to time, some people express anger openly in a calm reasonable way.Others burst with anger, and scream and yell. But other people keep their anger inside. They can not or will not express it.This is called ______________.

[3] For years many doctors thought that repressing anger was more dangerous to a person’s health than expressing it.They said that when a person is angry, the brain release the same hormones. They speed the heart rate, raise blood pressure, or sugar into the blood, etc.In general the person feels excited and ready to act.

[4] Some doctors say that both repressing and expressing anger can be dangerous. They believe that those who express anger violently may be likely to develop heart disease, and they believe that those who keep their anger inside may face a greater danger of high blood pressure.

[5] Doctors say the solution is learning how to deal with anger. They say the first step is to admit that you are angry and to recognize the real cause of the anger, then decide if the cause is serious enough to get angry about. If it is, they say, “Do not express your anger while angry.Wait until your anger has cooled down and you are able to express yourself calmly and reasonably.”
