talking to human答案解析

16.Talking to human-like devices can be great fun-just ask Siri to tell you a joke.But it muy also lead to problems.
A recent study by scientists from the University of Kansas in the US found that human-like devices keep people from seeking out normal human interaction when they feel lonely.
During a series of experiments,panicipants were asked to write about a time when they felt lonely.They also took part in an online game of"catch"against a computer program that was designed to"throw"the hall to other players more often,but participants believed they were playing with real people online.
Participants were then introduced to human-like products,including a vacuum cleaner (真空吸尘器) designed to appear as if it were smiling.They were also asked to think about their phone in human-like terms,considering questions like"how much does it help you?"
The results showed that the participants were happy with the comfort they got from the machines and didn't need to seek out normal human interaction.
Generally, when people feel socially excluded, they seek out other ways to reduce
the feeling of loneliness.Normal ways include increasing their number of social media friends or engaging in behaviors to seek out interaction with other people,according to Jenny Olson,assistant professor of marketing at KU.
But it wasn't all bad news,as the team found that there were limits to how far this effect would extend.
"As soon as we tell people we know that it looks like the vacuum cleaner is smiling,they seemed to realize it was a machine and not a person."Olson told Daily Mail."The effect goes away.This seems to be happening on a very subconscious level."
Researchers believe the results arc important for consumers to realize how these types of products could affect their social interaction with real people, especially because so many new products feature interactivity.
"lf someone notices they are talking more to Siri lately,maybe that has something to do with feeling lonely."Olson said."From that standpoint,it's important to be aware of it."
The study could also help companies design products that can increase the well-being of people who feel lonely,without sacrificing normal social interaction.
"Maybe ii is more about improving our current relationships."Olson said,"such as taking a break from screen time and focusing on developing your real personal connections."

56.Researchers from the University of Kansas found thatD.
A.hunum-like devices may help people interact with others
B.interactions with human-like devices may make people feel lonely
C.lonely people may easily become addicted to human-like devices
D.human-like devices may reduce people's social interaction in real life
57.During the experiments,participantsB.
A.were allowed to talk with human-like devices
B.were shown devices with human features
C.played online games with both machines and real people

One evening a grandson was talking to his grandfather about inventions. The grandson asked his grandfather about the computer age and other inventions.

The grandpa replied,“Well, let me think for a minute…I was born before television, penicillin, frozen foods, Xerox machines, contact lenses and Frisbees. There was no radar, credit cards, laser beams or ball-point pens.

Man had not invented air conditioners, dishwashers, clothes dryers, and the clothes were hung out to dry in the fresh air and man hadn't yet walked on the moon.

Time-sharing meant a time the family spent together in the evenings and weekends-not purchasing condominiums. We had never heard of FM radios, tape decks, CDs, electric typewriters, or guys wearing earrings.”

If you saw anything with ‘Made in Japan'-or any other countries on it, it was junk. The term ‘making out' referred to how you did on your school exam.Pizza Hut, McDonald's, and instant coffee were unheard of.

In my day, ‘coke' was a general cold drink(not the name of Coca Cola); ‘pot' was something your mother cooked in(not a drug), and ‘rock music' was your grandmother's lullaby(摇篮曲)(not a kind of popular music).‘Aids' were helpers in the high official's office(not a deadly disease);‘chip' meant a piece of wood(not a part of a computer);‘hardware' was found in a hardware(五金器具)store, and ‘software' wasn't even a word. And we were the last generation to actually believe that a lady needed a husband to have a baby.

No wonder people call us old and think we are confused and say there is a generation gap, and how old do you think I am?

This man would be only 59 years old.

(1)

Which of the following statements suits the writer's opinion?

[ ]

A.

There are too many inventions in the world.

B.

Old people always don't keep up with the society.

C.

The world is changing too fast.

D.

New generation never understands the old.

(2)

It can be inferred from the passage that ________.

[ ]

A.

the young generation looked down upon the old

B.

the old contributed much to the inventions

C.

new inventions usually benefit the young greatly

D.

it is difficult for the old to accept all the changes

(3)

Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?

[ ]

A.

The grandfather believed that it was reasonable that guys wore earrings.

B.

In the grandfather's opinion, new inventions brought great convenience to human beings.

C.

The grandfather thought there was a better family relationship at his time.

D.

the grandfather thought so many new inventions usually made old people feel stupid.

(4)

A funny thing happened on the way to the communication revolution: we stopped talking to one another.
I was walking in the park with a friend recently, and his cell phone rang, interrupting our conversation. There we were, walking and talking on a beautiful sunny day and suddenly, I became invisible, absent from the conversation.
The telephone used to connect you to the absent. Now it makes people sitting next to you feel absent. Why is it that the more connected we get, the more disconnected I feel? Every advance in communication technology is a tragedy to the closeness of human interaction. With email and instant messaging over the Internet, we can now communicate without seeing or talking to one another. With voice-mail, you can conduct entire conversations without ever reaching anyone. If my mom has a question, I just leave the answer on her machine.
As almost every contact we can imagine between human beings gets automated, the emotional distance index goes up. You can’t even call a person to get the phone number of another person any more. Directory assistance is almost always fully automated.
I am not against modern technology. I own a cell phone, an ATM card, a voice-mail system, and an email account. Giving them up isn’t wise. They’re a great help to us. It's some of their possible consequences that make me feel uneasy.
More and more, I find myself hiding behind email to do a job meant for conversations or being relieved with voice-mail picking up because I don't really have time to talk. The industry devoted to helping me keep in touch is making me lonelier

A funny thing happened on the way to the communications revolution: we stopped talking to one another.

I was walking in the park with a friend recently, and his cell phone rang, interrupting our conversation. There we were, walking and talking on a beautiful sunny day and…I became invisible, absent from the conversation.

The telephone used to connect you to the absent. Now it makes people sitting next to you feel absent. Why is it that the more connected we get, the more disconnected I feel? Every advance in communications technology is a tragedy to the closeness of human interaction. With e-mail and instant messaging over the Internet, we can now communicate without seeing or talking to one another. With voice mail, you can conduct entire conversations without ever reaching anyone. If my mom has a question, I just leave the answer on her machine.

As almost every contact we can imagine between human beings gets automated, the alienation(疏远) index goes up. You can't even call a person to get the phone number of another person anymore. Directory assistance is almost always fully automated.

I am not against modern technology. I own a cell phone, an ATM card, a voice, mail system, and an e-mail account. Giving them up isn't wise, they're a great help to us. It's some of their possible consequences that make me feel uneasy.

More and more, I find myself hiding behind e-mail to do a job meant for conversation, or being relieved that voice mail picked up because I didn’t really have time to talk. The industry devoted to helping me keep in touch is making me lonelier, or at least facilitating my antisocial instincts.

So I've put myself on technology restriction: no instant messaging with people who live near me, no cell phoning in the presence of friends, no letting the voice mail pick up when I'm at home.
