阅读理解:

In the middle of the night, Sully's wife was suddenly ill. She had great(痛)pains and rolled(滚动)from side to side, crying, " Oh, my stomach(胃)! Get the doctor! Get the doctor! "

Sully got out of bed and started dressing. As soon as he had put his clothes on, he said, " Now, my dear, are you quite certain that you need the doctor? We must not wake him unless(除非)it is really necessary. "

" Yes, I am. Go, go, go! " his wife shouted, " Or you will find me dead by the morning. "

So Sully opened the door and went out into the street with a stick in his hand. He had only gone a few steps, when he heard his wife calling him again.

" I'm all right again now. I shall not want the doctor, " she said softly.

" Well, that's good, " Sully replied, and at once started running as fast as he could towards the doctor's house. When he arrived there, he knocked on the door with his stick, loudly enough to wake everybody nearby.

The doctor put his sleepy(困倦的)head out of the bedroom window and said, " Eh? What's that? Who's there? "

" Oh, Doctor, " Sully called up to him, " I've very good news for you. My wife was ill with terrible pains. I was on my way to bring you to her, but she called me back and said that the pains had suddenly left her. So you need not come. Go back to bed now, and sleep well! "
