7、Lots of parents feel they don’t have any ways to discipline their children---nothing seems to work. In fact, 30% parents say their discipline methods just don’t work.

Angela Warren is one of those moms. Her daughter, Skai, seems immune to every method. They take away the toys, unplug (拔掉插头) her TV and even take the TV away at times. They try their best to teach her a lesson. But it seems like nothing is working.

In fact, the biggest problem is that, too often, parents give in to their children to stop their children from throwing a tantrum(耍性子). Parents do it because it is easier . It is avoidable behavior, which means that they don’t want to cause problems, they don’t want the kids to go into a temper tantrum and they don’t want the night ruined. They just want things to be calm but they are teaching their children how to get results with that behavior.

And over time, being afraid of temper tantrums means some kids will turn into spoiled children. So you are going to deal with a kid who doesn’t have a real good sense of themselves and they don’t have very good boundaries to work with. That means they are also not going to have a good sense of having boundaries with others.

In order to avoid that future, parents should build discipline that is loving, consistent and firm. You can’t be friends with your kids if never set rules-----the kids are going to be very confused by that and will usually go against that rule. Parents should know that discipline “doesn’t mean punishment. Discipline means teaching ---you are their teacher. You are the most influential person in their lives.”
