1、       Every Sunday , when the first ray braks over Dawan Village in Wuwei City , Gansu Province , 14-year-kld Cai Hui 36  out of bed and hops on her 37   . She pedals furiously (猛烈地) to her friends’ homes in neighboring villages , and wakes them up one by one . Then all six of the 38   kids make the 15-kilometer 39   to the Tengger Desert , buckets and spades 40  . After a 40-minute tractor ride along the bumpy road , they reach the 800-sq-km 41  , and begin their work ― afforestation (造林)

        Of all the 42  fighting desertification in the region , this group is the youngest , an the only one that volunteers . Its 43  , two girls and 44  boys are aged between five and fourteen years . As the eldest member, Cai Hui leads the group . The team was 45  in April 2004 by a 46  school student who had long helped his grandfather 47  the desert by planting trees along its edges . When the boy and his family moved to another city , Cai Hui 48  ― his mantle (斗篷)

       49 their tender age , these children share a common desire : to 50  the sand sweeping into their homeland .

       They have planted more than 10 , 000 trees in the desert , and 19 percent of 51  have survived . That might not seem like much , 52  given the harsh conditions in the region , it is a pretty good 53  .

       The kids work hard in the desert every weekend , come 54  , hail (冰雹) or shine .And every they plant gives them the sense that they are one step 55  to their goal .
