One day, when I arrived at school, an ice cream truck was parked in the schoolyard.Ice cream men usually drove their trucks to primary schools.I had never thought one ice cream truck would come to bring ice cream to us older kids. When I went up to the truck, I was quite surprised to hear the man call out, “Free ice cream!” To make sure of his words, I asked, “I'm sorry, what did you say?” “Free ice cream.Choose whichever you like.” he said smiling.

It seems like a very unusual goal.” “Yes, just meeting people and making them smile,” he replied. At that point he handed me my ice cream.I thanked him, but what I got from him was much more than just an ice cream. It can't easily be expressed in words.I believe what he was doing is exactly what great people do all the time:small acts of big love.

Tired of bad handwriting, Richie decided to perfect his penmanship (书法) last January. Though the year progressed, his writing didn’t. “My penmanship just got worse,” he says. “I get tired of trying to write neatly.”
Like Richie, many teenagers make resolutions in the New Year. More than half of Americans say they make a New Year’s resolution – but only one-third of them keep to it, reports the University of North Carolina, US.
Demanding (追求) perfection  stops people working on their resolutions, says Chicago life coach Alison Miller.
Resolutions sometimes can be unrealistic (不现实).. Going for a goal  that’s too hard to achieve can leave a person feeling sad. “Saying ‘I’m going to look like a super-model’ is going to make you unhappy,” she says.
Sure, it’s a great idea to aim for improvement, but not all resolutions are helpful. The difference between good and bad resolutions is whether you expect too much from yourself, Miller says. For example, it’s OK to say, “I’m going to eat fewer French fries,” but striving (力争)  for a perfect body isn’t reasonable.
Timing can also damage a resolution. Kevin M., 16, says he doesn't set resolutions because 12 months is unrealistic. “It’s too long and you start putting off keeping your resolution during summer,” he says.
He’s considering a career in music, but says school is his main focus. Knowing how hard he has to work, he says he’ll “be lucky to get 30 minutes a day” of practice. But a bit is better than nothing, and making reminders can help you make progress. Miller says teenagers should write down their goals and say to themselves, “What can I do today to make my goal a reality?”
“It’s just small steps along the way. It’s not about doing it all at once,” Miller says.
小题1:What’s the writer’s purpose by talking Richie in the first paragraph?
A.To advise people to keep their New Year’s resolutions.
B.To show that some people fail to keep their New Year’s resolutions.
C.To tell readers why Richie isn’t a good hand writer.
D.To show why New Year’s resolutions are important.
小题2:Many Americans stop working on their New Year’s resolutions because ______.
A.they think it is silly to make resolutions
B.they find keeping resolutions is boring
C.the time of keeping resolutions is too short
D.their choice of resolution turns out to be unrealistic
小题3:Which of the following statements would Miller probably agree with?
A.Teenagers should set themselves perfect goals.
B.To achieve your goals, you needn’t write them down.
C.People should try to realize their goals step by step.
D.A good resolution helps people realize their possibility.

How much should you save? You may be able to save 100% of your money. Does that mean you should? Not at all. The best way to develop good saving habits is to make saving a regular part of your life, along with spending.
Here is the rule you should remember: save before spending. Whenever some money gets into your hands, from a job or your pocket money or whatever, take your savings out immediately, before spending any of the money. The beauty of this system is that if you take away your savings, you are free to spend the rest.
Here are some more suggestions on how to successfully get into the saving habit from teens. Let’s see!
Tony,13: I put my money in a bank instead of my wallet, so the money is not there. And I have to take an extra step to get it.
Bill,14: When considering a major purchase(购买), wait a week or so, at least. This will help you make sure if you still want it, and the price might go down.
Dick, 13: Carry very little money always. You can’t spend money if you don’t have it. A cake would be nice, but without a dollar, you can’t get it. Little things like that really add up quickly.
Steve,16: I used to be weak when it came to money. I bought something whenever I went into a store. I’m glad I’m not that person now. I taught myself discipline by keeping a $20 bill in my pocket while waking around the mall all day and not buying anything. Now I have no strong wish to buy things when I go into a store. It works for me.
These ideas should help you get started. If you have some questions about anything you’ve read here, or would like to share your ideas about saving money, please write to us.
