    韦编三绝的故事

    孔子是我国古代的大教育家，被后人尊称为“圣人”，他一生都热爱学习。孔子到了晚年，喜欢读一本叫做《周易》的书。

    那时候的字是写在一片片竹简上，一部书要用许多竹简，必须用绳子把这些竹简编连在一起才能阅读。通常，用丝线编连的叫“丝编”，用麻绳编连的叫“绳编”，用熟牛皮绳编连的叫“韦编”，其中为熟牛皮绳最为结实。像《周易》这样厚重的书，当然是由许许多多竹简通过熟牛皮绳编连起来的。平时卷起来放着，看时就打开来。《周易》的内容非常复杂难懂，孔子就翻来覆（fù）去地读，这样一遍又一遍地读来读去，把编联竹简的牛皮绳子磨断了许多次。

    即使读到了这样的地步，孔子还是不满意。他说：“如果我能多活几年，我就可以多理解些《周易》的文字和内容了。”

    后人经常用“韦编三绝”这个成语来形容人学习勤奋刻苦。
