【题目】 A girl named Carly Butler travelled 3,755 miles from Canada to London. She wanted to retrace (重温) her grandmother’s daily life during World War II by the descriptions in old love letters.

Carly found 104 letters and telegrams between her grandmother in England and grandfather in Canada. Every week she would open seven new letters, and then she would do as described in the letters in the next week.

Her grandmother and her grandfather met at a dancing party in London in May 1943 and they stayed together just for three days, and then her grandfather married her grandmother.

Now, 67 years later, Carly left her own husband in Canada, opened her grandmother’s letters and tried to follow the letters to retrace all the things in those letters.

So far, she has visited her grandmother’s birthplace in West Hampstead. She spent a day visiting Oxford and watching a film at the Marble Arch Cinema. Carly also plans to see her grandmother’s working place. Her grandmother passed away in 1998.

Carly even hopes to come back to Canada on the Queen Mary II, because her grandmother did all those years ago.

Rhoda Breakell, head of the Genes Reunited, said, “Her trip is inspiring, unusual and it is clear that she is really enjoying retracing her grandmother’s footsteps.”

【题目】阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C 和D 项中,选出最佳选项。
A
Most young boys don't like growing flowers and watering them. But for 16-year-old Angus, working in the garden isn't just a hobby — it has changed his life.
Angus has a special illness and his IQ is lower than a normal boy. Six months ago, he started learning how to grow flowers. Now, he spends hours in the garden growing flowers, watering and looking after them. “Before working in the garden, it was difficult for Angus to concentrate in class and sometimes he didn't want to go to school,” said his mother Kim. “Now he can't wait to go to school and he is happy every day. We can see Angus is able to work in a garden center in the future,”
Research shows that working in the garden improves mental and physics health. In the past, soldiers in Egypt treated their mental problems after war by working in the garden. Even now, some doctors advise people to work in the garden to treat their mental health problems. And doctors also advise young people like Angus to work in the garden.
The lives of hundreds of children in Britain with special needs, like Angus, have been changed by this special kind of education. When working in the garden, children have a chance to learn a lot of important skills, such as how to work with other people and how to take care of plants. Besides, the children become more confident after working in the garden.

【题目】阅读下面短文,从短文后的五个选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。每个选项只能用一次。
Is there anything worse than that? You bravely raise your hand to answer a question, but your teacher just point out that you’re wrong. What a shame! What could the teacher make you suffer (忍受) this?
Relax. . Your teacher isn't calling you out to humiliate (使丢脸) you, but rather out of concern for you and your education.
Having all your classmates come to know your weak points can be pretty hard, so how can you get past the shame and recognize class participation as a learning opportunity?
Get out of your comfort zone. Terrill Schumaker, a teacher, explains that “the more you speak out, the more you learn how to grow and build confidence.
Realize it's not a big deal. . People aren’t going to care all that much. “If I'm wrong or make a stupid point, then people laugh at me, but life moves on” says Grade 12 Kristen Wesenberg. Besides, everybody makes mistakes, and you can't be perfect all the time.
. Of course it takes courage (勇气), but as Wesenberg says, ―What's the point of living in fear?‖ You won't learn anything if you are not brave enough.
Use the experience as a learning tool. Wesenberg advises asking teachers why you're wrong so they can explain and you can learn.. If you're wrong now, at least you won't be wrong in your next test!
A. Be brave in class
B. Trust your teacher instead
C. Use class time as a mini—test
D. And it's not the end of the world
E. Then you can live an exciting life
