       Taking away a city's rubbish is a big job. Every day trucks come into a city to collect it. Most rubbish is useless. If we kept these things, we would soon have a mountain of rubbish.

       In some cities people collect the rubbish and take it outside of the city to a dump (垃圾场).People often build the city dump in a low ground or a place with a big hole. And they break the kitchen rubbish into small pieces and send it into the sewage system (系统).The sewage system also takes away the used water from toilets and other places.

       In other cities people burn the rubbish in special places. The fire burns everything but the metal (金属).Sometimes we can use the metal again in special factories. We can put the food parts of rubbish in special piles and make it change into something called humus ( 豆泥).It looks like black earth. It can feed plants and help to make them grow.
