Passage 2 (2015江苏南京玄武区一模,c)
April will bring a new product — the Apple Watch—into the market. Last week, the watch was firstly introduced ^WATCH by Tim Cook,Apple's CEO.The price of the watch will differ from $ 349 to$ 1,099,depending on its size, strap and whether it is a sports or regular version.
Apple engineers and designers have put in a lot of thoughts and hard work into creating this“small screen”on your wrist (手腕) .The “sensor”on the screen not only detects your finger, but knows the difference between when you are tapping, and when you are pressing harder.
The watch also has “ haptic feedback (触觉反馈) ”.You can send personal messages to your friend—such as drawing a star or a special sign with your fingers,or tapping the watch, say 3 times, and your friend will receive those taps on their wrist.
Besides telling the time, the watch will use “bluetooth” to connect to your iPhone and show calls or text messages that come in.
According to Tim Cook, the watch may open up a whole new area of applications that we had never thought of. Some car factories like BMW have developed an app that allows its car owners to open their cars with the watch. A “Hotels ”app may allow you to open the door to your hotel room without worrying about losing the smart card. And finally, even airlines are jumping in—passengers may be able to simply wave their wrist to check into their flight.
The biggest use of the watch, however,is as your personal fitness coach. The watch can measure your pulse ( heartbeat) using a sensor at the bottom of the watch.lt also has the same” accelerometer as your iPhone,so it knows when you are moving, and also how much you are walking or running.lt will remind you if you have been sitting for too long without much activity. Passage 7(2014 江苏镇江,C)
“In my day,we had to walk a mile to school—uphill, both ways." That may sound like an old joke.Today, only 13 percent of kids walk to school, down from 66 percent 30 years ago.
Studies show that fewer children are walking and biking to school, and more children are at risk of becoming overweight. Changing behaviors of children and parents requires creative ways that are safe and fun.
A walking school bus can be both.
It works like a bus, picking up passengers along the way at designated (指定的) “bus stops” except everyone is walking!
The Walking School Bus works as a supervised group of children walking to and from school along a safe and enjoyable set route. There are at least two parents in a group. One parent “drives” at the front of the bus, while the other parent supervises at the back. The different supervisors go with the children to and from school. Ad- ditional (增加的) parents may be needed depending on the walking environment.
The “bus” can go as often as parents want to “ drive” it and children want to use it.This means that it can even work as little as one morning or afternoon each week. All children are welcome to join the bus even if their parents cannot be drivers. And the service is free.
Socially,it's great because the children meet other children;oth?erwise they would only know by sight.
“ My children have formed some good friendships because of the Walking Bus.The parents get to know other parents too!" a parent said From our experience of the Walking Bus,it has only been a meaningful thing.lt gets all of us walking more and the children do not complain about walking like they used to.

Many people believe that yellowing and wetness are the greatest enemy of stamps. In fact, stamps are afraid of not only wetness, but also light and dirty things.People protect their stamps in several different ways.
To protect stamps,we should never touch the stamps with our hands. This avoids moving dirty things onto them.Stamp tweezers (慑 子) should be used in all conditions.
Stamps are printed things. The colour will slowly disappear if the stamps are put in the light for a long time. So we should not put stamps in the light for long.Direct sunlight must be avoided as well.

However,it is possible that some stamps have taken in some water from the air before they are put into the plastic bags.Stamps become yellow easily and rapidly after they take in wet air.To protect the stamps, some people also put the stamps into a special room which has a machine to keep the air cool and dry. However, not many people can afford that.
To keep stamps, stamp collectors usually put them under plastic covers.lt is a common and simple way. This helps because the plastic cover keeps the stamps off the wet air. It also stops the fingers from touching the stamps.

Passage 8 (2014 浙江杭州,B)
How quickly can you count from one to ten? Do you use ten dif?ferent words to do it? Can you do it in English,or do you have to use your first language? Do you count on your fingers? Many people think that numbers and math are the same all over the world. But sci?entists have discovered that it is not true.
People in different parts of the world use different ways to count on their fingers. In the United States, people begin counting with their first finger, which they extend or stick out. They then extend the rest of their fingers and finally the thumb (梅指) to count to five. Then they repeat this with the other hand to get to ten. InChina, people count by using different finger positions. In this way,a Chinese person can easily count to ten on only one hand.
Besides ways of finger counting, scientists have found that cultures and languages are also different when it comes to numbers. Some langua?ges have only a few words for numbers, and others have no words for numbers.A group of scientists studied aboriginal (土著白勺) people in Australia. These people don't have haml movements to stand for numbers. They don’t even have words for numbers. However, they are still able to understand different ideas about numbers.

Professor Edward Gibson said that most people believe that everyone knows how to count but here is a group that does not count. They could learn, but it's not useful in their culture,so they’ve never picked it up."
Although all humans are able to understand quantities (数量) ,not all languages have numbers and not all people use counting.Num?ber words in a certain language are a result of people needing num?bers in their daily lives.
