Presently, a cleaning project is carried out in our hometown. Maoming city II is necessary for us to clean our living environment, because rubbish can be seen everywhere. The air, the soil and Use water are all polluted. Some kinds of unsafe food which is harmful to people's health appear in the stores and some supermarkets.

I think we must stop the pollution and the harm. People must throw the waste into the rubbish bins. Don't allow anyone to produce and sell any unsafe food. Pay attention to the food before eating, sure it is safe. If we can do that all, our hometown will soon be cleaner and more beautiful

Living in a foreign country can be exciting, but it can also be confusing (ÁîÈËÃÔ»óµÄ).A group of Americans who taught English in other countries recently discussed their experiences. They decided that miscommunications were always possible, even over something as simple as ¡°yes¡± and ¡°no¡±.

On her first day in Micronesia, an island in the Pacific, Lisa thought people weren¡¯t paying any attention to her. The day was hot. She went into a store and asked,¡°Do you have cold drinks?¡±The woman there didn¡¯t say anything. Lisa repeated the question. Still the woman said nothing. She later learned that the woman had answered her: She had raised her eyebrows (üë), which in Micronesia means¡°yes¡±.

Jan remembered an experience she had in Bulgaria, a country in Europe. She went to a restaurant that was known for its cabbage. She asked the waiter, ¡°Do you have cabbage today?¡± He nodded his head. Jan waited, but the cabbage never came. In that country, a nod means ¡°no¡±.

Tom had a similar problem when he arrived in India. After explaining something in class, he asked his students if they understood. They answered with many different nods and shakes of the head. He thought some students had not understood, so he explained again. When he asked again, they did the same thing. He soon found out that his students did understand. In India, people nod and shake their heads in different ways depending on where they come from. You have to know where a person is from to understand whether they mean ¡°yes¡± or ¡°no¡±.

Imagine the situation. You are driving along a desert or on a mountain. You have no idea where you are. You passed the last house two hours ago. Then your car breaks down. It is night and it is cold. You have no mobile phone. What do you do? Well, next time take a GPS with you. This invention may be able to help you. It is a device which uses satellites to find the user¡¯s position. It can find your position to within 20 metres. A GPS cannot start your car, but at least you will know where you are.

GPS, which means Global Positioning System, is a small radio receiver. It looks like a mobile phone. You can hold it in your hand, or put in your pocket. It is sometimes put into a watch or a telephone. We also find GPS devices in cars, planes, or boats. Some of these devices have electronic maps, so you know where you are. For example, in a city they can tell you the name of the street.

There are three parts to the Global Positioning System. The first part is the receiver. You can hold it in your hand, or have it fixed into your car, plane, etc. The second part is a group of satellites orbiting the Earth. The receiver contacts at least four of the satellites and calculates (¼ÆËã) its position. The third part of the system is a network of ground stations. They are all over the world. They control the satellites and make sure they are working well.

Some people think that in the future the GPS will be as common as the mobile. They are becoming cheaper and more and more accurate (¾«È·µÄ). There are also new uses for the GPS. Perhaps they will become like watches. Everyone will have one and you will never be lost again.

Fashion isn't very environmentally-friendly because it makes people buy things they don't need, just because they're new. We want to take care of the environment, we don't want to pollute the air and we don't want to waste energy and resources. But we also want to be fashionable. How can we buy fashionable clothes and protect the environment?

Old styles are fashionable again, so one way is to buy second-hand clothes ¡ª recycled clothes. Another way is to buy' fair trade clothes. These clothes are either recycled or made in a ' way that protects the environment. They also protect the people who make the clothes.

Surprisingly, white cotton is one of the least environmentally-friendly crops of all. To protect the cotton, the growers use chemicals that pollute water, make farm workers ill and kill wildlife. New materials, such as hemp and bamboo, grow quickly and are more environmentally-friendly. These materials are very soft, and look fantastic. The best materials are coloured using natural dyes, made from plants.

Environmentally-friendly clothes are practical but until now they were often dull. Now fashion-designers are working with these materials and the clothes are beautiful as well. So now we can buy fashionable clothes that are also environmentally-friendly.
