第四部分书面表达
第一节 阅读表达(共5 小题;每小题 2分, 满分10分)
阅读下面的短文,并根据短文后的要求答题。(请注意问题后的字数要求)
Think about all the things you enjoy doing outside. Do you have a huge, green field or city park close to your house where you can play baseball or soccer? Do your parents take you swimming or camping during your summer vacation? Maybe you and your friends just like to hang out on your street and ride bikes.
Our world is so beautiful. It’s part of the reason we love to be outdoors. The blue skies, clear lakes and rivers, rich soil, and fresh air are all valuable natural resources(资源) that make up a healthy, safe environment. Everyone living on the earth needs to do his or her part to help protect these resources so our world will still be healthy and beautiful many years from now.
As the population on earth continues to grow at a fast rate, it becomes harder to protect our land, air, and water from harmful pollution. The most important way people can fight pollution is to learn as much as possible about how their actions affect the environment. Then they can make wise choices that will reduce damage to the planet.
Governments, scientists, businesses and industries, agriculture, environmental organizations, and individuals can all help to control pollution. Pollution management, which specifically involves(涉及)reducing and cleaning up pollution, is expected to be one of the fastest growing industries of the future.
The government serves an important role in managing pollution by passing laws and setting guidelines(指导方针)to set and increase pollution standards.

E
“You will remember this night forever,” he told me. My friend was taking me dumpster(垃圾桶)diving for the first time. We both needed costumes for a party so he decided to show me around a few of the city’s finest waste baskets. After finding costume materials in the thrift store(旧货店)dumpsters, we stopped at a grocery store. There we found a dumpster half filled with potatoes and bread. We collected bags of potatoes to share with friends and to use for cooking with Food Not Bombs(a group that shares free vegetarian food and speaks against war and poverty). I was later told that using the dumpsters could earn me the title of an urban pirate(海盗)-what a great honour!
My first dumpster dive opened new doors for me. I had struggled with spending money. Now I think it will prove difficult to buy anything after seeing what people throw away. Something about all those wasted resources is not right. It seems we are constantly buying more and more and throwing away perfectly usable items, while many cannot meet their basic needs.
People who have never done their shopping in a dumpster believe it is dirty, dangerous, and humiliating. In reality, a diver with an old pair of jeans, a flashlight and a little common sense (wear boots and gloves to guard against sharp objects)should not have any trouble staying safe and can feel good about being a resourceful and responsible consumer. Dumpstering is a good way to save money, labour, and lessen our environmental impact.
From that dumpster tour, I had a new opinion on garbage. I found I can do something in this wasteful society. By living simply and taking what little I need from others’ unwanted goods, I am able to begin to break the habits of wastefulness. The influence of that first urban pirate adventure created a continuing impact on my life.
72. What is the attitude of the author to the title of an urban pirate?
A. Tolerant          B. Proud         C. Respectful        D. Humiliating
73. “My first dumpster dive opened new doors for me.” means          .
A. it has led to a better life for me and made me wealthier
B. it has made me buy nothing later and break the habits of wastefulness
C. it has changed my views and attitudes to consumers and living
D. it has brought me good senses to be a responsible and a resourceful consumer
74. The main idea of the third paragraph is             .
A. only the poor goes in for dumpstering
B. how to keep safe while dumpstering
C. the benefit and value of dumpstering
D. how to save money and lessen environmental impace
75. In the writer’s opinion,          .
A. there are many objects to be recycled in the dumpster
B. there are too many people looking down upon the divers
C. the little of an urban pirate is a prejudice
D. the influence of the first urban pirate adventure had an ill effect on his life

C
Andreea,18,from Romania, sent a photograph of the view from her window and included a brief apology, “Sorry, this picture is plain and boring. No one would like it.”
At home in New Jersey, US, Coreen Burke,16, clicked on the same image on the internet. She saw a village with its rooftops and walls painted in reds and yellows, a distant chimney(烟囱) giving off smoke. “Isn’t this amazingly different from my country?” She thought to herself.
Burke, a teenager with a skill for computers, saw beauty in that photo. She posted it to her blog, Outside My Window, which features a daily snapshot(快照) of someone’s window view around the world.
The concept is simple: We can all relate to the act of staring through a piece of glass, onto the scene on the other side. “Maybe if we understood the way people from all over the world live,” she explained, “we would all get along better than we have been lately.”
With a click of a mouse, you can see Frederic’s window in the south of France, looking out on sailboats anchored (抛锚) in a peaceful harbor. Or Virginia’s view in Canada, a winter scene with trees laced in white.
Like most high school students, Burke has traveled the world. But she says someday she hopes to collect stamps in her passport, starting with Greece and India. Her recent break was devoted to launching the site with a blogger account and recruiting(招募) contributors from deviant ART, an online art community. She posted the first window view from Switzerland, a sunset photographed by an 18-year-old. Then others came flowing in by email, up to seven a day, from as far as Kazakhstan and Indonesia.
Contributors are marked on maps pinned on her bedroom wall: a blue dot indicates their country and a pink dot shows their city, if they provide it. The most responses have come from Europe – Estonia, Poland, Italy, Germany and Sweden, to name a few. She is crossing her fingers, thinking that she’ll receive a photo from Africa or Antarctica, which are unrepresented so far.
While she’s become a cyber crusader(网络革新者) for appreciating the beauty outside our own windows, get this: She has no windows in her bedroom. She has a nice skylight(天窗), though.
51. What does Burke think of the picture she received from Andreea?
A. Boring      B. Charming    C. Strange    D. Plain
52. Outside My Window is a blog intended to show_______.
A. the view from Burke’s window
B. pictures of rural New Jersey
C. photos of window views taken by people all over the world
D. beautiful scenes of famous places of interest
53. We can conclude from the article that Burke _______.
A. believes we should reach out to people of different cultures
B. has traveled around the world and taken many pictures
C. is a member of an online art community
D. has made a lot of money by selling beautiful pictures
54. Which of the following is not true?
A. Burke is likely to receive a photo from Africa or Antarctica.
B. Burke is a junior middle school student.
C. Burke has photos from many countries in the world, including Kazakhstan.
D. Burke wants a photo of window view from Africa or Antarctica.
55.What is the best title of this passage?
A. World Windows
B. Beautiful Pictures

第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,共10分)
根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
If you walk into W. Lloyd Jerome’s dental surgery(手术) in Glasgow, you’ll see bright paintings and a fashionable blue couch which patients sit on while he checks their teeth. Jerome says, ‘That’s because they’re frightened.’
71   ‘That’s why I don’t wear a white coat. I find that’s one of the things that people associate with pain. In fact, my philosophy is that dental treatment should take place in an atmosphere of relaxation, interest and, above all , enjoyment.’
Which is all highly shocking for anyone who associates dental treatment with pain, or at the very least, formal, chinical visits. He says, ‘If people are relaxed, entertained and correctly treated, they will forget such previous unpleasant experiences.’
Virtual -  reality headsets are one of his new relaxation techniques, ‘  72   The headsets are used for the first check – up, where the patient sits on the blue couch and watches an underwear film while I look at their teeth. “Then the headset switches to a special camera, to give the patient a visual tour around their mouth.’
Another key point is that the surgery smells more like a perfume shop than a dentist’s. Today there is the smell of orange. “When people walk in, I want them to realize with all their senses that it’s not like going to dentist’s. Smell is very important.  73  ’
Known as Clasgow’s most fashionable dentist, Jerome is keen to point out that he takes his work very seriously. ‘  74  ’
For example, Jerome uses a special instrument which sprays warm water on the teeth to clean them, rather than scraping them. ‘It feels a bit strange, but as long as people are relaxed, it’s not painful.’
75  ‘One of the things I found out there was that when you make it easier for the patient, you make it easier for yourself’ He sees his patient – centred attitude as the start of a gradual movement towards less formality in the conservative British dentistry profession.
At that moment, a patient arrives. Jerome rushes over, offers him a cup of tea, askes him what video he’d like to watch and leads him gently towards the chair.
A.Five years ago, Jerome went to the United States to do research.
B.He has tried to create an environment where people are not afraid.
C.The relaxation techniques are important but the quality of the treatment is the most important thing.
D.We were the first practice in Britain to introduce them.
E. Now they look forward to their visits here.
F. That dental smell of surgical spirit can get the heart racing in minutes if you’re frightened of dentists.
G. Fifty percent of the population only go to the dentist when they’re in pain.

第三部分:阅读理解(共20小题,每题2分,满分40分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项中选出最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。
A
My sister was sick for a long time before they found out what was the matter with her. She had so many tests , and no answers came, till one day we heard the words we were dreading " Your sister has a rare blood vessel cancer, hopefully we can remove it, but we have only seen 5 cases ,and don't even know if she will survive"
My wedding day was in November, and the family spent most of their time going to the hospital ,so I was on my own with all the arrangements. Not that I minded, we were just waiting to find out what was going to become of my sister.
Finally the surgeons decided amputation was the answer after extensive radiation therapy to shrink the tumour. She was tired and lethargic, and tried hard to put on a brave face, but the fear showed in her eyes.
Fortunately, when the surgery came, the doctors found they could remove the tumour without amputation, but at a great cost. The whole leg muscle was removed , and became infected, and it took many months for my sister to become well enough to leave the hospital, but was unable to stand, let alone walk.
The day of our wedding came around, and still my sister remained unwell, and was not coming to the wedding. I felt sad inside at the thought of it, but she had survived the ordeal ,and that was enough for now.
It was the only dark spot on the happiest day of my life.
As the wedding car pulled up, I saw the family moving around the church ,and felt a slight pang....Jayne was not going to be here to share all this... I stepped out of the wedding car, and rearranged my gown and dress... the church started the bridal march... ...and as in a dream, there was my sister, standing up, supported by two crutches, smiling. I think I am the only bride who stopped in the middle of the bridal march to walk over and kiss my sister on the cheek. It cost my sister so much pain to be there ,to stand and even walk a little. She could not manage it for long, but she did it for me, even when her own future looked uncertain. In my bridal book, there is a page for gifts... and next to my sister’s name is the entry..."Jaynes gift...my sister walked on my wedding day"
And her gift is the one we remember most...
51. From the second paragraph, we can learn that ______.
A. The family didn't care much about my wedding
B. I was worried about the arrangement of my wedding
C. I was angry that I had to arrange my wedding by myself
D. I think I should care more about my sister's illness
52. What does the underlined word "amputation" mean?
A. chemical treatment                                 B. removing the tumour
C. cutting off the leg                                      D. removing the whole leg muscle
53. What's only the dark spot on my happiest day
A. my sister's leg was infected.                    B. My sister could not attend my wedding.
C. My sister was unable to walk.                D. My sister failed to survive the cancer.
54. What's the best title of this passage?
A. My sister's gift.      B. My sister's illness.  C. My brave sister.    D. My happiest day.
