    15．Every student has their own way of learning English．For Pan Fangdi，a student from Shenzhen，her favorite method is watching American TV dramas．
    "My favorite show is House．The storyline is interesting．And it helps to enlarge my vocabulary．I would never remember those long and hard words，such as tuberculosis and pneumonia if I didn't watch the dramas，"she said．Pan，17，is the winner of the sixth National English Speaking Competition held on October 8 in Shanghai．Fifty students from the Chinese mainland，Hong Kong and Macao spoke on the subject："What the Olympics mean to me．"Pan impressed the judges with her impressive language skills．
    Starting learning English at the age of 5，Pan said she fell in with the language when she first watched the American video Family Album in the third grade．After she finished the whole series，she got an American accent and a taste for American dramas．
    Pan thinks English is an important tool for communicating with people of different cultures．The summer she graduated from junior high school，she joined an exchange student program to find her way home．
    At San Francisco airport，she got separated from her group and ended up in a wr ong departure lounge（候机厅）．She used English to ask for directions．After walking around and taking a train between several terminals（终点站），she finally found her place and boarded it on time．
    "The experience always reminds me of how important it is to learn English well，"she said，laughing．

    Dad carried the pot out and we opened doors and windows to air out the house．Just how bad was it？The neighbours came out of their houses to see if we had a gas leak!
    Determined，Dad filled our plates with steaming stew and passed them around．It didn't look that bad，and after the first wave had shut down my ability to smell，it didn't offend the nose so much，either．I took a taste．It would never win a prize in a cooking competition，but it was surprisingly edible，and we drank up every last drop of soup．
