Computer programmer David Jones earns £35,000 a year designing new computer games, yet he cannot find a bank ready to let him have a credit card(信用卡). Instead, he has been told to wait another two years, until he is 18. The 16yearold works for a small firm in Liverpool, where the problem of most young people of his age is finding a job. David' s firm releases(推出) two new games for the fast growing computer market each month.
But David's biggest headache is what to do with his money. Even though he earns a lot, he cannot drive a car, take out a mortgage(抵押贷款),or get credit cards. David got his job with the Liverpoolbased company four months ago, a year after leaving school with six Olevels and working for a time in a computer shop.“I got the job because the people who run the firm knew I had already written some programs,”he said. David spends some of his money on records and clothes, and gives his mother 50 pounds a week. But most of his spare time is spent working.
“Unfortunately, computing was not part of our studies at school,”he said.“But I had been studying it in books and magazines for four years in my spare time. I knew what I wanted to do and never considered staying on at school. Most people in this business are fairly young, anyway.”David added:“I would like to earn a million and I suppose early retirement(退休) is a possibility. You never know when the market might disappear.”

A huge shire horse in Australia has been declared the biggest horse in the world by its owner , beating the current Guinness World Record(吉尼斯记录) by several inches .
The huge five-year-old , from Pakenham , S. E Australia , measures an amazing 20.1 hands , or 2.057m tall . He weighs over 1.3 tons ( 1,300kg) — about the same as a small car — and is still growing . The frightening thing is he still hasn’t finished—shire horses aren’t fully grown until they’re about six or seven .”
Jane has said that Noddy could be sold overseas , possibly even fetching a record price to match his height . She is unwilling to sell , but to fund the high cost of keeping him she needs to put him to work . “ He needs a job . It’s very hard to find jobs for such a big horse in Australia . Once, long ago, there was a man who traveled from Persia to India on foot. He had       been to India before. When he arrived at a village, he happened upon a fruit stand. In that village, fruit was quite       because of the lack of water. The man was looking around at the fruits when he      a big basket of some very red, very long fruit. It was the cheapest fruit in the shop, not expensive at all.
the man walked up to the counter (柜台) and asked: “How       per kilo?” And the shopkeeper said: “Two rupees.” Two rupees in India is      . The man thought to himself: “What a       !” So he bought a whole kilogram of the fruit and began to       it. But after he tried a few pieces, he screamed: “Oh, my God!” His eyes watered, his mouth burned, and his face turned        . He coughed and choked and gasped for breath.
But despite his       , he continued to stuff the fruits into his mouth! Onlookers       their heads and laughed. One man yelled: “You’re       , man! Those are chilies! People use them as a condiment (佐料). You don’t just eat them by the handful like that; they’re not fruit!” But the man replied: “No, I can’t       ! I paid money for them, and now I’ll eat them. It’s my money!”
You probably think this man was pretty      , right? Nevertheless, I bet you or someone you know makes the same       on a daily basis. People invest money, time and effort into a relationship, business or job. Even when experience tells them that it’s not      , and they know there’s little hope of improvement, they still        because they don’t want to waste the previous investment. But this is       . It is no different than being the man who continued eating chilies because he didn’t want to waste the money he’d paid for them.
Losing something is difficult, but it is important to        the loss and move on.     you’ll just keep burning your mouth on hot chilies.

Our tolerating ability is indeed beyond our imagination. But not until the very critical moment will we realize our    tolerating ability.
There was a woman in the countryside who had to     with her children wherever she could at the age of 26 due to the Japanese army’s    . Many people could not bear the     and wanted to commit suicide. After she knew about it, she would come to those people and      them by saying, “Don’t do that silly thing. There are no such setbacks that we could not overcome. The Japanese armies are sure to be     one day!”
Finally she insisted until the day when all the Japanese armies were kicked out of China. However, her son died of disease without     medicine and nutrition in those days of hardships. Her husband lay in bed for two days without eating and drinking    . She teared to her husband and said, “We have a tough    , but however tough our lives will be, we should never    . Though our son has passed away, we can have another. There are no such setbacks that we could not overcome.”
After giving birth to the second son, her husband died of edema(水肿), which    blew her away. But eventually, she     and hugged the three young children, saying, “My sweet hearts, don’t feel scared. You still have me, your dear mum!”
It took her painstaking efforts to raise her children up and the life of her family was getting    . She was aging     and could not do the farm work any more.     she stayed at home and did some housework. Nevertheless, the Heaven     to show no affection to her who had undergone a rough life. She lived until 86. Before she went to Heaven, she said to her children, “You all should live     your best. There are no such setbacks that we could not overcome!”
We will     get to realize our own iron will and strong tolerating     after getting stricken heavily. Therefore, no matter what you are suffering from now, do not merely complain about the     of our destiny.

A friend of mine met with an accident driving in darkness. His legs were so hurt that he couldn’t move. What was the       was he found himself unable to ask for help — his mobile phone went out of        as a result of exhausted battery. Nothing could be done but to       in cold wilderness. It was 8 hours later that day broke, and then the        of the rescue.
It is almost       that he could stand the horror in the darkness for so long. Even more surprising was his       : "First of all I checked up my        conditions and found myself not in mortal (致命的)danger. As there was no way to call for help, I leaned back in my seat trying my best to keep the wound from      . In this way I dozed (打盹)off ."
His story put an end to my regret for the       of an exploration adventure that happened last year. A group of young men       to explore a mountain cave and got lost.        to find a way out in the dark cave they were frightened and ran anxiously without a sense of        .Finally they fell dead in fear and exhaustion. According to the       people that found them, the place where they got lost was only about 10 meters away from the        of the cave. If they stayed on the spot when they lost their way and tried to        themselves, they would probably sense a faint light glimmering (闪烁)not far away .
Don’t you think that you can compare it with        itself? When you meet with obstacles (障碍)in life and work, you are lost in darkness.     you it’s unclear yet and you needn’t put up struggle        . It seems to be a negative attitude,        a person who can afford to do so must have foresight as well as a great       in the first place.

When I was fifteen, I announced to my English class that I was going to write my own books. Half the students smiled      , and even worse, the rest nearly fell out of their chairs laughing. “Don’t be        . Only geniuses can become writers.” the English teacher said, “And you are getting a D this term.” I was so      that I burst into tears. That night I wrote a short       poem about broken dreams and mailed it to the newspaper. To my     , they published it and sent me two dollars. I was a published and paid writer. I showed my teacher and fellow students. They laughed, “Just plain dumb luck,” the teacher said. I tasted      ; I’d sold the first thing I’d ever written. That was more than any of them had done and if it was just dumb luck, that was fine with me.
During the next two years, I sold dozens of poems and letters. By the time I graduated from high school, I had scrapbooks (剪贴簿)      with my published works. I never      my writing to my teachers, friends or my family again  because they were dream        .
I had four children at the time. While the children slept, I typed on my ancient typewriter. I wrote what I felt. It took nine months. I chose a      and mailed it. A month later I received a contract, an advance on payments, and a request to start      another book. Crying Wind, which became a best seller, was translated into fifteen languages and sold worldwide. My first book also became required       in native American schools in Canada.
In the      year I ever had as a writer I earned two dollars. In my best year I earned 36,000 dollars. People ask what college I      , what degrees I have and what qualifications I have to be a writer. The answer is: “None.” I just write. I’m not a genius. I use an electric typewriter that I paid a hundred and twenty nine dollars for six years ago. I do all the housework and fit my writing in a few minutes here and there. I’ve written eight books. To all those who dream of writing, I’m shouting at you: “Yes, you can. Don’t listen to them.” I don’t write right but I’ve succeeded. Writing is        ; it’s fun and anyone can do it. Of course, a little dumb luck doesn’t hurt.
