    Last week, our teacher announced that a Chinese Character Dictation Competition would be held in the auditorium on April 3. Many of us were interested and hoped to participate, but only one competitor was allowed for each class. Luckily, I got the chance.

    In the following days, I buried myself preparing for the competition. My classmates all volunteered to help. Some of them dictated to me various characters they found in the dictionary while others offered to check my answers. As the competition was approaching, I felt more and more confident. The day finally came. Some characters were so challenging that many of the competitors got stuck while I was able to write down most of them and won the first prize.

    When I was standing excitedly on the stage, pictures of my classmates helping and encouraging me flashed into my mind. The victory and honor belonged to all of us.

    Of all the things that make me happy, music is that I like best. Music has a strong effect on me in different way. Sometimes it helps me feel in relief even when things go wrongly. Sometimes it makes me to burst into tears in an instant but I still want to enjoy it again. More importantly, music is just like a devoting friend who cares about me all the time. With this friend encouraged me now and then, I have learned to be confident of me and smile at the world.     Wildlife Services also has a livestock(牲畜)protection program.The program just offers suggestions to keep those unwelcome visitors away instead of killing them.Experts suggest providing secure shelter for chickens,sheep and other animals that could be attacked.They also suggest using lights above places where animals are kept.And they advise people who see coyotes around their property to chase them away by shouting,making loud noises or throwing rocks.For home gardeners,a two-meter fence might help keep out deer.To keep out rabbits,a wire fence has to be only about a half-meter high.It should extend fifteen centimeters underground to keep rabbits from digging under it.If snakes are a problem,remove dead trees and cut high grass to destroy their hiding places.And to protect livestock,consider using guard animals such as dogs and donkeys,which are very effective.Due to its effective work,ever since the Wildlife Services was started,it has been well received by farmers all over the States and neighboring countries such as Canada and Mexico.

    I came across a article about a doctor named Lin Qiaozhi who was a specialist in women’s diseases. One of her books explained how to cut the death rate from having and caring for babies caught my eye. It was specially written for the women in the countryside where medical equipments and medical care were in shortage. Then I do some research by raising some questions about her. Farther reading made me to realize it was hard work and determine as well as her gentle nature which got her into medical school. And what made her succeed was her kindness and consideration.     I took part in a international English speech contest and win a prize. As a result, I offered a chance to visit Paris. Paris is one of my most favorite cities and I had dreamed of go there for a long time.

    Firstly, I visited the magnificent Eiffel Tower. Then I went to the Louvre, that I enjoyed a lot of world-famous work, such as Leonardo da Vinci’s masterpiece Mona Lisa. I also enjoyed the sights of the Arch of Triumph, which is regarded for the symbol of France.

    I also spent some time look around and experiencing the unique culture in Paris, which great enriched my life.
