         Facebook means never having to say goodbye.The social media website has earned a reputation for
    reconnecting old friends.Last week,a guy whom I hadn't seen since my bachelor party five years ago
    sent me a friend request.I accepted and waited for "Easy E" to send me a greeting of some kind.He had
    sought me out,after all.
         I learned from his profile that he was in a relationship and had a son.However,I'm pretty sure we won't ever write walltowall,let alone email each other.But he'll remain a friend of online until one of us makes a
    point of removing the other from his official list.
         My pool of friends consists of family members,college buddies,coworkers from past and  present,and
    friends of friends.There are 35 in all.If I spent some time uploading old email addresses,I'm confident that
    I could increase my friend count actually.
         A person could make a mission out of reconnecting with childhood friends,former  classmates,distant
    cousins, and those one would like to get to know better.And some people can even handle hundreds of
    onscreen relationships,keeping up with the daily happenings of  their small army of companions.After all,
    there are worse fates than having too many friends.
          Thanks to email,the inability to schedule facetoface meetings no longer means a  friendship must come
    to a close.But even with email,people will lose touch if one or both  parties stop writing back.That's
    normal.People move from school to school,job to job,city  to city.You never have to feel guilty for
    breaking away.
          Every day,the masterminds of Web 2.0 find new ways of making human communication  easier.
    However,convenience_can_be_a_crutch(拐杖). Some things shouldn't be simplified.When it comes to
    friendship,there can be no shortcuts.

    A few years ago, I took a sightseeing trip to Washington D.C. I saw many of our nation’s treasures, and I also saw a lot of unfortunate people like beggars and homeless folks in the streets.

    Immediately, I realized what I had done. I acted with prejudice(偏见)—I judged another person simply for what I thought she was.

    The thing I had forgotten about myself is that I am an immigrant. I left Honduras and arrived in America at the age of 15. Through the years, I have been a dishwasher, cashier, mechanic and pizza delivery driver among many other jobs, and finally I became a network engineer.

    In my own life, I have experienced many open acts of prejudice. I remember a time, at age 17— I was a busboy, and I heard a father tell his little boy that if he did not do well at school, he would end up like me.

    But now, living in my American middle-class lifestyle, it is too easy to forget my past, to forget who I am and where I have been, and to lose sight of where I want to be going. That blind woman on the street of Washington D.C. cured me of my blindness. She reminded me to always keep my eyes and heart open.

    Gloria is a famous hostess of a TV station. When she was 15, she happened to walk into a bookstore in her hometown and began looking at the books on the shelves. The man behind the counter, John Smith, asked if she'd like a job. She needed to start saving for college, so she said yes.

    Gloria visited the boy in the hospital after the operation. The first thing he did was to hold up his repaired hand and say, "Thank you. " What a sweet sense of satisfaction Gloria felt!

    At Smith's bookstore, Gloria always realized she was working for the customers, not the store. Today it's the same. The TV station pays her, but she feels that she should work for the people who watch the programmes, helping them understand the world better.

         Jim Carrey is one of the most recognized faces in the world-and certainly because of his rubbery face.
         Born in Ontario, Canada on January 17th, 1962 to a poor family, young Jim Carrey led a tough life, yet
    one good thing came out of it. He developed a great sense of humor to cope with life. At 15, he started
    performing at a Toronto comedy club. Later he moved to LA and soon came to the attention of Rodney and

         The days of the hunter are almost over in India. This is partly because there is practically nothing left to
    kill, and partly because some steps have been taken, mainly by banning tiger-shooting, to protect those animals
    which still survive.
         Some people say that Man is naturally a hunter. I disagree with this view. Surely out earliest forefathers,
    who at first possessed no weapons, spent their time digging for roots, and were no doubt themselves often
    hunted by meat-eating animals.
         I believe the main reason why the modern hunter kills is that he thinks people will admire his courage in
    overpowering dangerous animals. Of course, there are some who truly believe that the killing is not really the
    important thing, and that the chief pleasure lies in the joy of the hunt and the beauties of the wild countryside.
    There are also those for whom hunting in fact offers a chance to prove themselves and risk death by design;
    these men go out after dangerous animals like tigers, even if they say they only do it to rid the countryside of
    a threat. I can respect reasons like these, but they are clearly different from the need to strengthen your high
    opinion of yourself.
         The greatest big-game hunters expressed in their writings something of these finer motives (动机). One
    of them wrote.
         "You must properly respect what you are after and shoot it cleanly and on the animal's own territory (领
    地).You must fix forever in your mind all the wonders of that particular day. This is better than letting him
    grow a few years older to be attacked and wounded by his own son and eventually eaten, half alive, by other
    animals. Hunting is not a cruel and senseless killing-not if you respect the thing you kill, not if you kill to
    enrich your memories, not if you kill to feed your people."
         I can understand such beliefs, and can compare these hunters with those who hunted lions with spears
    (矛) and bravely caught them by the tail. But this is very different from many tiger-shoots I have seen, in
    which modern weapons were used. The so-called hunters fired from tall trees or from the backs of trained
    elephants. Such methods made tigers seem no more dangerous than rabbits.
