Why do you say that? asked the customer.

Well, you just have to go out in 【3】 street to prove that. Tell me, if God existed, would there be so many sick people? Would there be abandoned children? If God existed, there 【4】 be neither suffering nor pain. I can't imagine【5】(love) a God who would allow all of these things to happen.

The customer thought for a moment, but didn't respond because he didn't want to start an 【6】_ (argue). After everything 【7】(do) and just after he left the barber's, he saw a man in the street with long dirty hair. The customer entered the barber's again and said:You know what?【8】 do not exist.

【1】about

【2】finally

【3】the

【4】would/should/could/might

【5】loving

【6】argument

【7】was done

【8】Barbers

【9】worked

【10】if

【解析】

试题分析:

【1】talk about sth.表示讨论某事

【2】修饰动词touched应用final的副词形式。

【3】in the street表示在街上

【4】考查情态动词。本句是if引导的虚拟语气,与现在的事实相反,从句用一般过去时,主句应用would/could/might/should+动词原形。

【5】imagine doing sth.

Perhaps you have heard the expression—when in Rome, do as the Romans do. So when you want to do business in France, you have to get to know French culture, to make marketing plans, and to run your business by local laws.

1The French take great pride in their language, so anyone who does not speak it may run the risk of being disrespected by his French colleagues or business partners. Also, another reason why learning French is important is that it is a great way to show every possible French business partner that you care and respect their country’s culture and language.

The first thing you should do when meeting someone new is to shake his hand firmly and always look the person in the eye. In social meeting with friends, kissing is common.

Use first names only after being invited to. 2The French will sometimes introduce themselves using their surname first, followed by their first name.

Dress well.3Your business clothing is a reflection of your success and social status. Always try to be tasteful and stylish. Women are advised to dress simply but elegantly. Wearing make-up is practised widely by businesswomen.

The French are passionate about food, so lunches are common in doing business in France, which usually consist of an appetizer, a main meal with wine, cheese, dessert and coffee, and normally take up to two hours.4

Do not begin eating until the host says “bon appetite”. Pass dishes to the left, keep wrists above the table and try to eat everything on the plate.5This may suggest that you find the food tasteless. If eating in a restaurant, the person who invites always pays.

A. The French draw information about people based on their appearance.

B. This is a time for relationship building.

C. Remember to be as polite as possible.

D. Language should be the focus of anyone planning to do business in France.

E. Be careful with adding salt, pepper or sauces to your food.

F. Use Monsieur or Madame before the surname.

G. Make an appointment with your business partner in advance.

【题目】阅读理解

The spread of Western eating habits around the world is bad for human health and the environment. These findings come from a new report in the journal Nature.

David Tilman, a professor of ecology at the University of Minnesota, America, examined information from 100 countries to identify what people ate and how a diet affected health. He noted a movement beginning in the 1960s. He found that as nations industrialized (工业化), population increased and earnings rose, more people began to adopt what has been called the Western diet.

The Western diet is high in sugar, fat, oil and meat. By eating these foods, people began to get fatter and sicker. David Tilman says overweight people are at greater risk of noninfectious diseases like diabetes (糖尿病) and heart disease.

Unfortunately when people become industrialized, if they adopt this Western diet, they are going to have these health problems, especially in developing countries in Asia. China is an example where the number of diabetes cases has been jumping from less than one percent to 10 percent of the population as they began to industrialize over a 20year period. And that is happening all across the world, in Mexico, in Nigeria and so on.

And, a diet bad for human beings is also bad for the environment. As the world's population grows, more forests and tropical (热带的) areas will become farmlands for crops or grasslands for cattle. We are likely to have more greenhouse gas in the future from agriculture than that coming out of all forms of transportation right now.

Mr. Tilman calls the link between the diet, the environment and human health, a trilemma a problem offering a difficult choice. He says one possible solution is leaving the Western diet behind.

【1】According to the passage, more greenhouse gas might be given off in the future from ________.

A.transportation B.developing countries

C.agriculture D.developed countries

【2】David Tilman believes that ________.

A.the diet, the environment and human health are closely connected

B.the Western diet is the only choice as the nation industrializes

C.people in tropical areas are more likely to have heart disease

D.traditional diets are more balanced than the Western diet

【3】We can infer from the passage that ________.

A.Nigeria has the largest number of diabetes cases

B.overweight people are at higher risk of infectious diseases

C.the examined information comes from developing countries

D.industrialization contributes to the spread of the Western diet

【4】The main purpose of the passage is to ________.

A.call on us to protect the environment

B.warn us of the danger of the Western diet

C.remind us of the importance of health

D.advise us to have a balanced diet

【题目】The sharing economy, represented by companies like Airbnb or Uber, is the latest fashion craze. But many supporters have overlooked the reality that this new business model is largely based on escaping regulations and breaking the law.

Airbnb is an internet-based service that allows people to rent out spare rooms to strangers for short stays. Uber is an internet taxi service that allows thousands of people to answer ride requests with their own cars. There are hundreds of other such services.

The good thing about the sharing economy is that it promotes the use of underused resources. Millions of people have houses or apartments with empty rooms, and Airbnb allows them to profit from these rooms while allowing guests a place to stay at prices that are often far less than those charged by hotels. Uber offers prices that are competitive with standard taxi prices and their drivers are often much quicker and more trustworthy.

But the downside of the sharing economy has gotten much less attention. Most cities and states both tax and regulate hotels, and the tourists who stay in hotels are usually an important source of tax income. But many of Airhnb’s customers are not paying the taxes required under the law.

Airbnb can also raise issues of safety for its customers and I trouble for hosts' neighbors. Hotels are regularly inspected(检查) to ensure that they are not fire traps and that they don't form other risks for visitors. Airbnb hosts face no such inspections.

Since Airbnb is allowing people to escape taxes and regulations, the company is simply promoting thefts. Others in the economy will lose by bearing an additional tax burden or being forced to live next to an apartment unit with a never-ending series of noisy visitors.

The same story may apply with Uber. Uber is currently in disputes over whether its cars meet the safety and insurance requirements imposed on standard taxis. Also, if Uber and related services flood the market, they could harm all taxi drivers' ability to earn a minimum wage.

This downside of the sharing needs to be taken seriously, but that doesn't mean the current tax and regulatory structure is perfect.

1What is the positive thing about the sharing economy?

A. It makes use of spare resources.

B. It is beyond regulations.

C. It is a global trend.

D. It brings in modest profits.

2What is the problem with Airbnb customers according to the passage?

A. They are not regularly inspected.

B. They may disturb hosts’ neighbours.

C. They are not allowed to escape taxes.

D. They are likely to commit thefts.

3What is the argument over Uber according to the passage?

A. Whether it lowers customers' expenses.

B. Whether it provides reliable services.

C. Whether it guarantees customers' safety.

D. Whether it can compete with standard taxis.

4What will be talked about in the following paragraphs?

A. Existing regulations and laws.

B. Necessary improvements of current laws.

C. Further development of Airbnb and Uber.

D. More downsides of Airbnb and Uber.
