【答案】Dear editor,

The Spring Festival is the most important traditional festival in China. During the seven-day holiday, all the families and friends love to get together to eat ,drink and have fun with each other.

But at the same time, some people will eat and drink too much. It’s easy for them to put on weight. Some people spend most of the time sitting still, playing games and card games day and night.

To have a healthy and meaningful Festival, I suggest that, for one thing , people should keep a balanced diet and try to avoid rich food and overeating during the festival, which is of great benefit to their health. Why not go out with the families and friends, such as ,taking a walk in the mountains, to breathe fresh air and admire the scenery as well? Doing outdoor activities is a good way to help you relax both mentally and physically. I bet that people will get refreshment afterwards. There are many other choices, too. Family tour is the one if you like.

I hope you find my advice useful and have a happy, healthy and meaningful Spring Festival

Your sincerely,

Li Hua

【题目】Scientists claim to have developed a revolutionary new giant 3D concrete printer that can build a 2,500-square-foot house in just 24 hours.

The 3D printer, developed by Professor Behrokh Khoshnevis from the University of Southern California, could be used to build a whole house, layer by layer, in a single day.

"It is basically scaling up 3D printing to the scale of building," said Khoshnevis.

The giant robot replaces construction workers with a nozzle (喷嘴), which can quickly build a home based on a computer pattern, MSN News reported.

Contour Crafting, as it is named, is a layered fabrication (构造) technology. Using this process, a single house or a colony of houses, each with possibly a different design, may be constructed in a single run, embedded (嵌入) in each house all the wires and pipes for electrical, plumbing and air-conditioning.

The potential applications of this technology are far-reaching including in emergency, low-income, and commercial housing.

"Our research also addresses the application of Contour Crafting in building habitats on other planets. Contour Crafting will most probably be one of the very few feasible approaches for building structures on other planets, such as the Moon and Mars, which are being targeted for human habitation before the end of the new century," researchers said on the project website.

The technology may potentially reduce energy use and emissions. And the main advantages of the Contour Crafting process over existing technologies are the superior surface finish that is realized and the greatly increased speed of construction.

A. build a 2500-square-foot house in a single day

C. design a group of houses automatically

D. assist construction workers in their work

2The new 3D printer uses the following to build a house EXCEPT ________.

A. a nozzle B. a computer pattern C. a robot D. an air-conditioner

3According to the text, the potential applications of Contour Crafting include building _______.

A. emergency vehicles B. low-income housing

C. commercial centers D. space stations on other planets

4What advantages of this new technology is mentioned in the text?

A. It creates more jobs. B. It is less time-consuming.

【题目】I was sure that I was to be killed. I became terribly nervous. I fumbled(摸索) in my pockets to see if there were any cigarettes, which had escapedtheir search. I found one and because of my shaking hands, I could barely get it to my lips. But I had no matches, they had taken those. I looked through the bars at the guard. He did not make eye contact with me. I called out to him “Have you got a light?” He looked at me, shrugged and came over to light my cigarette. As he came close and lit the match, his eyes unconsciously locked with mine. At that moment, I smiled. I don’t know why I did that. Perhaps it was nervousness, perhaps it was because, when you get very close, one to another, it is very hard not to smile. In any case, I smiled. In that instant, it was as though a spark jumped across the gap between our two hearts, our two human souls. I know he didn’t want to, but my smile leaped through the bars and caused a smile on his lips, too. He lit my cigarette but stayed near, looking at me directly in the eyes and continuing to smile.

I kept smiling at him, now thinking of him as a person and not just a guard. "Do you have kids?" he asked. “Yes, here, here.” I took out my wallet and nervously fumbled for the pictures of my family. He, too, took out the pictures of his family and began to talk about his plans and hopes for them. My eyes filled with tears. I said that I feared that I’d never see my family again, never have the chance to see them grow up. Tears came to his eyes, too. Suddenly, without another word, he unlocked my cell and silently led me out. Out of the prison, quietly and by back routes, out of the town. There, at the edge of town, he released me. And without another word, he turned back toward the town.

1What had happened to the man before ?

A. He had been badly treated.

B. He had killed someone.

C. He had been searched.

D. He had been forbidden to get in touch with anyone.

2Why did the man want to smoke cigarettes?

A. Because he was sure he was to be killed.

B. Because he wanted to ease his nervousness.

C. Because he wanted to talk to the guard.

D. Because he was used to smoking cigarettes.

3Which of the following is true according to the passage?

A. The man was a heavy smoker.

B. The man smiled to please the guard.

C. The guard set the man free with permission.

D. The man hadn’t thought the guard would set him free.

4What do you think finally saved the man’s life?

A. The smile. B. The cigarette.

C. The tears. D. The wallet.
